Recognizing Signs of Autism
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects social communication and interaction, as well as behavior and sensory processing.
The signs of autism in young children can vary widely, but some common early signs include:
-
Lack of eye contact
-
Delayed speech or language skills
-
Repetitive behaviors
-
Difficulty with social interaction
-
Sensory processing issues
-
Lack of interest in play
-
Difficulty with transitions or changes in routine
It is important to remember that every child with autism is unique, and not all children with autism will exhibit all of these signs.
If you think your child has ASD, it is recommended that you seek a referral from your child's pediatrician for an ADOS-2 assessment to help with diagnosis.
